Saskatchewan already operates one of the most expensive electricity systems in Canada. The decisions made today will determine whether power bills remain manageable — or become a major barrier to growth and affordability.
In October 2025, the Saskatchewan Party released its Energy Security Strategy and Supply Plan, committing the province to extend coal generation and pursue SMR deployment in the medium term. What the government did not release was the financial and economic analysis behind this decision.
Independent modelling commissioned by the Saskatchewan NDP and conducted by the independent Energy Super Modelers and International Analysts (ESMIA) shows the government’s plan is the highest-cost and highest-risk pathway available to Saskatchewan.
